Investigating Urban Sustainability and Innovation and Change
 
For a contrasting urban experience, bring your students to Ultimo and Chippendale, where they will:
 
Explore Urban Renewal: Witness cutting-edge urban redevelopment projects and their impact on the local environment and community.
Study Sustainable Practices: Analyse how these neighbourhoods incorporate sustainability into their urban planning, from green buildings to innovative public spaces.
Observe Social and Economic Interactions: Examine how these areas support diverse populations and economic, academic, social and cultural activities through thoughtful urban design.
 
Key activities of the field study:
- Urban Transect: Navigate through the bustling streets of the Old goods line and the streets of Ultimo and Chippendale, noting the blend of historical architecture and modern developments, Adaptive reuse, heritage preservation and Urban decay.
- Green Infrastructure: Visit iconic sites like One Central Park, known for its vertical gardens, and The Goods Line, a transformed urban park.
- Field Sketching and Data Collection: Conduct field sketches of significant buildings and spaces, documenting their features and sustainability practices.

Cabramatta

Unveiling Urban Changes and Cultural Diversity
 
Fulfill the mandatory fieldwork requirement for the new NSW Geography Year 11 syllabus with our immersive excursion to Cabramatta. This hands-on experience will enable your students to:
 
Understand Urban Processes and Demographic Change: Explore how geographical processes shape Cabramatta’s urban landscape and contribute to its unique characteristics.
Examine Spatial Patterns: Investigate the social and cultural interactions that define Cabramatta as a diverse urban environment.
Analyse Historical and Contemporary Changes: Delve into the variations within Cabramatta and understand the impact of historical developments and modern urban renewal initiatives.
Engage in Active Learning: Create detailed field sketches at Cabravale Memorial Park, documenting endemic vegetation and historical carvings. 

Key activities of the field study:
- Urban Transect Walk: Observe and record land use, building types, noise levels, and pollution along John Street. Identify evidence of urban decay or renewal.
- Community and Cultural Analysis: Assess the strength of community bonds through tangible evidence such as local events and shared spaces. Evaluate cultural adoption, adaptation, and diffusion within the business and local council strategies.
- Mapping and Demographic Studies: Utilize historical maps, aerial photos, and census data to explore the development and demographic shifts in Cabramatta. Identify trends and propose solutions for current urban challenges.
