Water in the World

Description of photo here

MANLY DAM

Location
Manly Dam, Allambie Heights

Excursion Synopsis
Students will investigate water on a global and regional scale, looking at water distribution, the water cycle and water vulnerability. Comparisons between water supply and water sustainability in Australia will be made.

Water pollution comparisions will be undertaken between two creeks situated at different locations within the Manly Dam catchment area. Tests include soil and water pH and water turbidity. A creek water animal catch will be undertaken to determine the health of the creek by using the animals as indicator species. The impact of human activities on the area will be examined and discussed.

Historical aerial photos, satellite images and topographic maps will be used to identify changes over time and understand catchment management.

CAMP COUTTS

Location
Camp Coutts, Waterfall

Excursion Synopsis
Students will investigate water on a global and regional scale, looking at water distribution, the water cycle and water vulnerability. Comparisons between water supply and water sustainability in Australia will be made.

Students will investigate the catchment area at Camp Coutts to learn about the role of catchments in the water cycle. Physical, chemical and biological water pollution testing will be undertaken at Heathcoat Creek. Tests include soil and water pH and water turbidity. A creek animal catch will be undertaken to determine the health of the creek by using the animals as pollution level indicator species. The impact of human activities on the area will be examined and discussed through field observations and the interpretation of secondary data.

Historical aerial photos, satellite images and topographic maps will be used to identify changes over time and understand catchment management.
